Born in Moscow in 1956, Alexey Dmitriev studied acting and directing at the Higher Institute of Theatre Shchoukina and directing at the Institute VGIK S. Gerasimov with Abderrhamane Sissako colleague.

Several of his short films have won awards, including "Verbena" which was crowned by the Film Academy as one of the 20 best films of the history of VGIK.

A versatile artist, he is a writer, author, literary critic, painter and actor.

He recently directed a short film there is no miracle in the context of international competition 48HOURFILMPROJECT, short film which won an award as best film and best director for Belgium in 2009.
